SEN LEE

Yoon Sen Lee was born in Singapore and completed his early music education receiving the UK diplomas of LRSM, LGSM and ALCM. He then went to Australia in 1991 to further his music studies completing his piano performance Bachelor degree with honours and Masters of Music degree of M.Mus (perf) with distinction in performance from the University of Western Australia. Yoon Sen won first prize at the Vose Concerto Competition at the University of Western Australia and performed with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. With a scholarship and grant from the University of Western Australia, he also had extensive studies in Holland for the performance on fortepiano.

Yoon Sen is a renowned and highly regarded music educator, a senior music examiner and advisory board member for the Australian Music Examinations Board (WA). He teaches at the University of Western Australia and is also professor of International Piano Academy in Imola, Italy. He has a music teaching career that spans over 40 years and has nurtured many music students who became winners at various local and international piano competitions. These include Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition for Young Musicians, Junior E Piano Competition, Palamo Doro International Piano Competition in Italy, Young Pianist of the North Competition in UK, Young Musicians Piano Competition in Enschede, Schumann International Piano Competition in Germany, Astana International Piano Competition in Kazahkstan, San Marino International Piano Competition, Chopin Szafarnia, Chopin Hartford, Cliburn and Cleveland International Piano competitions in USA and many others. Many of his students have been admitted into top institutions in the USA, including New England Conservatory of Music and the Juilliard School of Music, in conservatories in Europe and also universities in Australia.

In 2011, Yoon Sen was awarded the Excellence Award in Promoting Chinese Culture through performance and education in music for the Chinese community in Australia. In the same year, Yoon Sen was nominated for the Golden Wattle Awards for the Top Ten Outstanding Australian Chinese Youth.

Yoon Sen has been adjudicator for various international music competitions and has also given masterclasses for students and teachers globally. He is also the director of the West Australian Pianists Competition over the past 20 years and principal of Yoon Sen Lee Music School in Perth and China. As a performer, Yoon Sen performs as solo pianist and fortepianist and in duo, and with orchestras around Europe, Australia and Asia. Yoon Sen is also a choral conductor, composer and tenor. He has published many of his choral works and vocal solo works in various CD recordings. His vocal compositions have won various awards in the USA.
